Custom Commission Inquiries
Commission FAQ
What happens after I submit an inquiry?
Once your inquiry form is received, Monique will review your details and follow up to discuss your vision, answer questions, and confirm whether the project is a good fit. For more on how the process works, see the How to Shop guide.
What are the typical project stages?
A custom commission generally moves through these stages:
- Inquiry & consultation — reviewing your request and aligning on design direction (this can be done in person or on zoom from the comfort of your home.)
- Design proposal — hand drawn sketches for your approval
- Stone sourcing (if applicable) — selecting or sourcing your chosen stone
- Fabrication — handcrafting the piece
- Final approval & delivery — quality check, photography, and shipping
How long does a commission take?
Timelines vary depending on complexity, stone sourcing, and current studio workload. As a general estimate:
- Simple commissions (e.g., a band or solitaire with an in-stock stone): approx. 4–6 weeks.
- Family tree pendants with stock gemstone approx. ( 2-3 weeks)
- Complex commissions (e.g., multi-stone settings, custom-sourced stones ,re-designing,wax carving etc. approximately 8–14 weeks
These are estimates, not guarantees. Monique will give you a realistic timeline at the consultation stage.
How does stone sourcing affect timing?
If you'd like a specific gemstone — a particular colour, origin, or cut — sourcing can add several weeks depending on availability. If you already own a stone you'd like set, please mention it in your inquiry so this can be factored into the quote and timeline.
How many design revisions are included?
The commission process typically includes one or two rounds of revisions to the design proposal before fabrication begins. Additional rounds of revisions may affect timing and are discussed on a case-by-case basis.
How do I confirm or choose my ring size?
Providing an accurate ring size before fabrication begins is ideal. You can:
- Visit a local jeweller to be professionally sized
- Use a ring-sizer tool (available upon request)
- Measure an existing ring that fits well (Monique can help convert the measurement)
If you're unsure of your size, let Monique know in your inquiry — she can advise on the best approach for your specific design.
Can a commission ring be resized later?
Many rings can be resized, but this depends on the design. Rings with full-eternity stone settings, intricate texture around the band, or certain alternative metals may have limited or no resizability. Monique will flag any resizing considerations for your design before fabrication begins.
What information should I include in my inquiry?
The more detail you can share, the better. Helpful information includes:
- The type of piece (e.g., engagement ring, pendant, earrings)
- Preferred metal (e.g., 14k,18k yellow/white gold, sterling silver)
- Stone preferences or whether you have a stone to supply
- Your ring size, if known
- Any inspiration images or reference designs
- Your approximate budget
- Your ideal timeline or any date you're working toward
Reference images are very welcome — even a rough mood board helps communicate your vision.
Can you make a matching wedding band for my engagement ring?
Yes. Matching or complementary wedding bands are a common commission request. For the best fit, the band is typically designed and made alongside the engagement ring, or after it is complete so the profile can be matched precisely. If you already have an engagement ring (made by Monique or another maker), please include photos and details in your inquiry.
